What Can Cause Hair Loss?
THERE ARE MANY REASONS WHY BOTH MEN AND WOMEN EXPERIENCE HAIR LOSS
THE NORMAL HAIR FOLLICLE CAN BE AFFECTED BY MANY FACTORS INCLUDING:
1. Poor eating habits and lack of nutrients
Macronutrients are the cornerstone of your diet. They are called MACRO, because our bodies need LARGE amounts of these carbohydrates, proteins, and fats daily. Each type of macronutrient plays a vital role in the body’s function.
Micronutrients are vitamins and minerals that are needed for vital body functions. They are called micro because our bodies need much smaller amounts of these vitamins and minerals. Nutritional deficiencies like poor protein intake, low vitamin D, low iron, and lack of other vital macro/micronutrients may contribute to poor hair health.
2. Medical issues
Medical issues when untreated, (low thyroid hormone levels, low iron levels or high levels of stress) may cause hair loss. Certain medications like immunosuppressants, chemotherapy drugs, blood pressure medications and others may also be associated with hair loss.
3. Poor personal habits

4. Your genetics
Genetics determine your sex at birth; your genes are passed from one generation to the next. Genetics are a major factor in both male baldness and female hair loss.
5. Hormones
Both men and women produce substances in their bodies called hormones. Hormones travel in your bloodstream and are the body’s messengers. Hormones transmit a chemical signal to a specific cell target, resulting in a change in the cell. Sex hormones include Testosterone, Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), Estrogen and Progesterone, and are made by both men and women. Androgens² are a group of sex hormones that are chemical messengers in the body. Both men and women produce Testosterone. Men make a lot of testosterone in their bodies, and women make some testosterone. Women who menstruate make a lot of estrogen and progesterone. At menopause, a woman’s estrogen and progesterone significantly decline.
Inside everyone’s hair follicles, a small amount of Testosterone is transformed into Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is the most studied cause of hormonal hair loss. In the scalp, the DHT grabs onto its unique and specific target at the root of the hair follicle, leading to hair thinning and hair loss.
The DHT hormone is PARTICULARLY important, because it is KNOWN to cause hair loss. It does this by reducing the size of the hair follicle (the protective and nourishing structure that surrounds the strand of hair and its root).
As DHT shrinks the follicle, oxygen and nutrients are less able to keep the hair healthy. Over time, hair follicles affected by DHT struggle to grow hair, and the hair that does grow is thinner and shorter. DHT eventually results in a non-functioning hair follicle, and hair that is unable to grow.

Why do men and women experience hair loss?
1. Male pattern hair loss is the most common cause of hair loss in men. In the US, many men who have male pattern baldness start losing their hair by age 21.
- By age 35, approximately 66 percent of men will have experienced some hair loss.
- By age 50, approximately 85 percent of men will have significantly thinner hair and significant hair loss.
This inheritance of male pattern baldness is due to the greater effect of DHT hormone that results in a receding hairline and thinning hair on the crown of the scalp ( Footnote #3 ).
Research suggests that men who are genetically vulnerable to male pattern baldness, tend to have higher levels of DHT and hair follicles that are more vulnerable to DHT. This sensitivity to DHT causes hair follicles to shrink and stops new hairs from growing.
2. Female pattern hair loss is the most common type of hair loss in women. Female pattern hair loss affects about 30 million women in the US. It is most common in menopausal women and women over 40. By age 70, 55% of women experience some type of hair loss.
Women make testosterone, but in much smaller amounts than men. The testosterone in women converts to DHT, just as it does in men. The effect of DHT is most pronounced in menopause when the female hormones of Estrogen and Progesterone sharply decline.
DHT is a CRITICAL factor for hair loss, so it is the ideal target for the “NuGrowthRX”™ 3 Phase-System for BOTH men and women.
DHT attaches to a specific DHT receptor site ( Footnote #2 ) on the hair follicle in the scalp.
This prevents the hair follicles from getting needed nutrients and oxygen. This stops the hair follicle from growing new hair.
Ultimately, DHT MAY completely inactivate the hair follicles in your scalp. DHT hormone MAY inactivate the hair follicle by interfering with the hair’s growth cycle during the critical Anagen phase, discussed below.
An inactive hair follicle can NOT grow hair or regenerate by itself.
Because a healthy hair follicle and a healthy scalp is CRITICALLY important for keeping and growing healthy hair, it is VITAL to prevent and stop DHT from grabbing onto the DHT receptor sites ( Footnote #2 ) at the root of the hair follicle.

THE 4 STAGES OF HAIR GROWTH
Stage 1-Anagen Phase
This is the Growing Phase of your scalp hair and is the longest phase of hair growth, usually lasting from 5-7 years in the average person. In most people, about 85-90 percent of the hairs on your scalp are in the anagen phase at all times. This is the most important phase for healthy hair growth.
Stage 2-Catagen Phase
Catagen is the transition phase of the hair and usually lasts 10 days. In the average person, about 5 percent of the hair on your scalp is in this phase at any given time. During catagen, hair growth slows, the hair follicles shrink, and the hair fiber loosens and finally begins to separate from the bottom of the hair follicle in the final days of growth.
Stage 3-Telogen Phase
Telogen is the resting phase. Hairs do not grow during the telogen phase, but they do not fall out either. About 10 percent of your scalp hairs are in this phase at any given time. This phase usually lasts around 2-3 months. Telogen hairs are thinner than Anagen hairs.
Stage 4-Exogen Phase
Exogen is the phase when hair is detached and shed from the scalp. Losing 50-100 hairs per day is normal during this phase. This phase usually lasts 2-5 months. It also triggers the beginning of new hair fiber growth in the follicle.

#1) The NuGrowthRX™ 3 Phase-System Prescription Medication Combinations formulated with a Board-Certified Dermatologist¹ (Finasteride, Dutasteride, Minoxidil and Spironolactone) are FDA approved medications. Often prescribed by doctors at much higher doses to treat high blood pressure or an enlarged prostate, doctors and scientific studies have shown that these medications, at low doses, promote hair growth and hair preservation with minimal reported side effects in few people ( Footnotes 4-7).
As with all prescription medications, it is VERY IMPORTANT to take the NuGrowthRX™ 3 Phase-System Prescription Medication Combinations in the recommended amount every day. You should never take more medication than recommended.
Taking MORE medication every day will NOT make your hair grow back any faster and may by harmful to your health. DO NOT TAKE MORE OR LESS THAN THE DAILY PRESCRIBED AMOUNT.
NuGrowthRX™ 3 Phase-System Prescription Medication Combinations and their action in the hair follicle:
1A) NuGrowthRX™ 3 Phase-System Prescription Medication Combinations for Men and Post-menopausal Women:
In men and menopausal woman, we prescribe the following 3 medications at very low doses to be taken once a day by mouth: Finasteride, Dutasteride and Minoxidil ( Appendix #1 C,F,G ).
How do these medications help hair growth?
NuGrowthRX™ 3 Phase-System Prescription Medication Combinations, are easy to swallow, absorbed mostly in the small intestine, rapidly enter the bloodstream and travel to their specific targets in the hair follicles in your scalp.
They prolong the Anagen phase of hair growth by BLOCKING the DHT androgen receptor sites ( Footnotes #2 ), decreasing the amount of DHT produced, OR increasing blood flow byrelaxing the blood vessels that nourish the hair follicle.
What are the medications?
Finasteride ( Appendix #1 F) – There are two types of DHT receptor sites in your hair follicles, Type I and Type II. Finasteride mainly works byBLOCKING the TYPE II DHT receptor site in the hair follicle. It has little effect on the Type I DHT receptor site in the hair follicle. Blocking the TYPE II DHT receptor site in the hair follicle preserves hair, increases hair, and thickens hair. It works mostly during the longest ANAGEN phase of the hair growth cycle. This allows you to grow more thick, strong, and healthy hair.
Dutasteride ( Appendix #1 G) works by blocking both Type I and Type II DHT receptor sites in the hair follicle. Dutasteride is not as strongly attracted to Type II receptors as Finasteride, but it helps to block MORE of the DHT receptor sites than Finasteride alone.
FOR BOTH Men and menopausal Women: If you are on Finasteride or Dutasteride you must wait 6 months after stopping these medications to donate blood. These medications are known to harm the male fetus.
MENSTRUATING WOMEN ARE NEVER TO TAKE OR TOUCH DUTASTERIDE OR FINASTERIDE. These medications are known to harm the male fetus if you are pregnant.
If your partner is pregnant or your partner is trying to get pregnant, there is evidence that both Finasteride and Dutasteride may decrease sperm count, motility, and semen volume. These changes were reversed on discontinuation of the medications (Appendix #1 ). In addition, pregnant or menstruating women are never to take or touch dutasteride or finasteride because these medications are known to harm the male fetus. If these scenarios apply to you, we recommend you do not take this medication currently.
Minoxidil helps hair grow by increasing blood flow to the hair follicle. It relaxes the blood vessels, allowing oxygen and the vital micro-nutrients in our “NuGrowthRX”™ 3 Phase-System Nutraceutical to nourish the hair follicle more easily, and stimulates the follicle to enter the Anagen growth phase. This allows the follicle to grow more thick, strong, and healthy hair (Appendix #1 C).
For men and post-menopausal women, it is the effect of these three uniquely targeted “NuGrowthRX”™ 3 Phase-System Prescription Medication Combinations formulated with a Board-Certified Dermatologist, which allows you to grow more thick, strong, and healthy hair (Appendix #1).
- IF YOU ARE PREGNANT, TRYING TO CONCEIVE, ARE BREASTFEEDING OR PUMPING BREAST MILK TO FEED YOUR BABY you should not take Minoxidil or Spironolactone medications.
- A confirmatory negative pregnancy test SHOULD be taken before starting these medications AND consistent and reliable birth control should be used while taking these medications.
Why will it take 3-6 months for my hair to regrow?
Social media has significantly altered our expectations regarding results. We want our online food order to be delivered within 30 minutes or less. We want our packages delivered “overnight”. We have been conditioned to receive an immediate response.
Nevertheless, when it comes to hair regrowth, we must “reset” our expectations. It takes approximately 3-6 months for new hair to grow from root to scalp, regardless of the products or devices that you use.

Men and Post-menopausal women who are prescribed Dutasteride, Finasteride, and Minoxidil will need a minimum of 3 months to see a change in hair growth.
